Since our last event, The Big One Ch3, we've seen more and more fallout from Jack Union and Keith Mathews, after Mathews progressed controversially in the Gauntlet match for the CCW Title. Clearly Union had been hard done by, but no one expected him and Tiny to lay into Mathews as they went on to do that night. Union and Mathews had seen off the challenge of the Golden Embassy side by side and now this. It's funny what the prospect of Gold will do to a man. With that said then, I thought the idea of having Union on commentary would provide a wonderful chance to hear what the man had to say, as in recent weeks, the animosity between him and Mathews had come to the fore and also, what would Union say about the alliance between himself, Tiny and The Prospect, collectively known as The Sons of Silence. As the night progressed it became clear that this was a different Jack Union; with a crueler, harder outlook and absolutely focused on becoming the dominant power in CCW.
Our first match of the night was a Number One Contender match, with the added stipulation that the winner could cash in their title shot whenever and wherever they wanted it. We knew that the Funk Soul Brother Matt Burns was in contention but despite there being a lengthy queue to challenge Champion AJ Hughes, we knew not his opponent. Until that is, the Sons of Silence made their way down to the ring. The Prospect and Tiny stalked Matt Burns and eventually got the better of him and laid into him cruelly, applying the Curbstomp and the Cannonball. And who was directing the traffic? The Chief of the Sons of Silence, Jack Union. This was all part of the plan. They grabbed the referee and forced her to count as Union obnoxiously pinned Matt Burns to become the Number One Contender, with "Money in The Bank".
There is no thought given to proper conduct with these guys, no respect towards other wrestlers or company staff whatsoever. Who are they to decide to hijack an officially sanctioned match and chose their own Number One Contender? I for one wish the CCW hierarchy would stand up to this sort of behavior.
Match number two was a titanic tag-battle! Two faces that we hadn't seen for too long returned to CCW in Ajax and the mighty Welsh Dragon. We know these two have so much history between them and things took a really interesting turn after this match ended. However, the match itself was, to quote someone infinitely better at commentary then me, a slobberknocker! Ajax teamed up with the electric Ryan Lloyd to take on the team of the Welsh Dragon and the Celtic Kid, accompanied as ever by his classless manager - The Smartest Man In Wrestling Today - Dick Chambers.
Ajax and Dragon left it all in the ring as they battered each other from post to post, Dragon really giving it to Ajax for long periods of the match. Ryan Lloyd was bouncing to get into the ring and he and Celtic Kid added so much electric wrestling to the match with their own unique wrestling styles. Eventually it was the team of the Welsh Dragon and the Celtic Kid who overcame.
However, as Ajax lay prone in the ring, who should come out but the Monster - Byson! Another one of Dick Chambers' clients, he and Celtic Kid began laying into Ajax mercilessly. Byson and Ajax have had some altercations recently and Ajax has been quite vocal about his disrespect for the Monster from the Bowels of Hell, but no one deserves to be taken apart by two men and Dick Chambers. This brutal attack was only halted when the exiting Welsh Dragon happened to see it all unfold, he darted back into the ring and fought off the attackers, picking up Ajax and making sure he was okay. Definitely more to come out of that one, that's for sure.
Now regular CCW-ites will know that the man who is stronger than Gravity, G-Force has had a hateful eye trained on the Chairman of CCW - Mason Tombs! This all dates back to the Super8 tournament earlier this year when Tombs declined G-Force an entry. Feeling slighted and disrespected, G-Force began a campaign of violence against the unorthodox Chairman. This came to a head at Season's Beatings in the eagerly anticipated Christmas Carnage match. Four presents at ringside, anything goes, everything possible. This match was about hatred, about settling the score in the most brutal way possible.
I almost don't want to talk too much about this match as I was shocked by the brutality of it! There will be highlights of this show for sure so you'll have a chance to see it for yourself, but for now, let me just say that someone's head dented a Microwave oven in the ring; someone did some serious punching with a frozen Roast Chicken around their fist and someone got metal backing trays wrapped around their head repeatedly. Those shots echoed around Mochdre Village Hall like a sneeze in an old church. A great match, however, I don't know if it settled anything - it's likely that G-Force will be seething more than he already was due to how it finished. Purely to humiliate the Chairman, Dick Chambers found a cream-pie in one of the presents and while G-Force held Tombs, Chambers lined him up... Only for Tombs to duck at the last second! Meaning G-Force got hit in the face with the pie!!! By his own manager - The Smartest Man In Wrestling Today! Tombs hit Chambers with a DDT and then managed to catch G-Force in a variation Boston Crab, making the big man tap out. I'd be asking Chambers for my money back.
Next up we saw a fantastic tag match as the team of the Heavy Metal Rock God - Big 50 and the ex-Welsh, (now Italian) Mario Priamo took on the legendary team of Tony Bond and Jonny Blaze - The Renegades! I've been lucky enough to see Bond and Blaze in singles matches a few times but I'd never had the priviledge of seeing them as The Renegades before and they didn't disappoint! There was so much action in this match it's unreal. You all know what Big 50 is like, God help the man who accidentally gets in his way, let alone the man who opposes him in a wrestling ring! And despite his questionable accent, Priamo is a dangerous, educated wrestler - always ready to strike.
The match was a treat for wrestling fans, with the unstoppable power of Big 50 and the speed of Blaze highlighting the difference in styles. Definitely worth checking out the highlights for this one and it turned out to be a successful night for The Renegades as they picked up the win.
Shockingly, The Heavy Metal Rock God turned on his partner for the evening, Priamo after the loss, laying into him and shouting obscenities at him. It took the Renegades to intervene to stop 50 from doing any further damage.
It was then time for our Main Event - the Fatal Four way Elimination Match! Champion AJ Hughes would have his work cut out in this (I believe) his thirteenth title defence to walk away with the belt again. Trying to take his title would be the 2014 Super 8 Champion - Keith Mathews, a man riding a huge wave of momentum and as we've seen a dangerous adversary for any wrestler; Tiny and The Prospect - two Sons of Silence members hell bent on bringing their own brand of chaos to CCW.
The match got off to an electric start with all four men diving straight into battle and pairing off. The fighting went off all over the ring and spilling over to ringside and often right in front of the commentary desk where Jack Union offered his support and advise to the SOS men.
We saw some incredible action with one incredible highlight being Champion AJ Hughes doing a suicide flip over the top rope to take out all three of his competitors. I won't give away too much of the match, because it was one that needs to be watched back for sure, but somehow against all the odds, AJ Hughes did manage to retain his title! Absolutely electric stuff in CCW.
However it was to be short-lived as on the Commentary Desk at ringside, Jack Union chose that moment to cash in his title shot. Talk about ruthless opportunism. As you can imagine and will no doubt see in the highlights, The Sons of Silence laid into an already exhausted AJ Hughes, applying the Curbstomp and the Cannonball before Union himself applied a huge spinebuster to finish AJ Hughes. They screamed for the bell to ring to start the match and Union casually, arrogantly applied the pin for the three count to become the CCW Welsh Champion.
And so at the final show of 2014, the CCW Title changed hands and the Big Chrome Belt is currently in the hands of the Sons of Silence Chief - Jack Union. Going forwards, none of us are sure how things will pan out here. We've seen how ruthless this group can be and now that they have the biggest prize in Conwy County Wrestling who knows where this will lead us. The integrity of this company is at stake when groups like the Sons of Silence run roughshod over everything we do. We will have to see what happens next in 2015!
Lastly guys, I would very much like to say thank you to everyone who comes to CCW shows, to those of you who follow online, to all the CCW staff and volunteers and of course to the wrestling talent who often travel from far and wide to make CCW events. We love what we do and we sincerely hope you all do too. Thanks from everyone associated with CCW and we will see you again nearly next year.
