So Fight of the Valkyries has come and gone and we have claimed a first ever CCW Folkvagr Trophy winner in the fantastic Jami Sparx. She fought her way through the last qualifying stage defeating the brilliant Lucy Sky (someone everyone at CCW has a great deal of respect for), through the semi final by defeating the excellent Ruby Summers and finally triumphed in the final itself by defeating Little Miss Roxxy.
It was a cracking night of wrestling and genuinely a pleasure and an honour for me to be a part of the commentary team calling the action. CCW Fight of the Valkyries was the first all-ladies wrestling tournament in to be held in North Wales - something I think CCW can be very proud of: but credit must go to the stars of the show, the unmissable upcoming talents of Violet O'Hara, Little Miss Roxxy, Lucy Sky, Jami Sparx and Ruby Summers. I would humbly recommend watching companies such as the Runcorn Wrestling Alliance and Tidal Wrestling where professional wrestlers such as these guys are trained/work regularly. | |
There is so much wrestling talent in the UK and it's incredible to see this new wave of female wrestlers - especially in the light of the larger American companies who for years have reinforced the notion that ladies wrestling is the loo-break. It's to their credit that we can say that attitude is changing massively, but frankly whatever they choose to do on their shows, it won't stop people from doing what they love regardless of gender. Hopefully Fight of the Valkyries was a statement of intent, solidarity and respect from Conwy County Wrestling.
With regards to the show itself, man! It was pretty epic! Lucy Sky vs Jami Sparx - as I mentioned to my co-commentator, the Chairman of CCW Mason Tombs, that match alone could have been the main event. It was an awesome match with one particular highlight being Jami Sparx's suicide dive through the middle rope. Start as you mean to go on! You will learn how to execute the perfect Single Leg Crab if you watch Little Miss Roxxy vs Violet O'Hara - an outstanding match with many discplines being showcased. Ruby Summers vs Jami Sparx and Little Miss Roxxy vs Jami Sparx had star-power stamped all over them and were just top matches of the highest standard.
While the tournament was the night's main thrust, we had a fantastic match between G-Force and a newcomer to CCW, Alex Henry. A truly bruising encounter saw the excellent Henry somehow kick out of G-Force's chokeslam and manage to find a Diamond Cutter to put the Man Stronger Than Gravity away. What a debut for Henry, we can't wait to see more from this talented powerhouse. As for G-Force, there was no Dick Chambers at ringside, we Tombs and I discussed how much of a factor his absense was. One thing is for sure, G-Force won't take losing lightly and an angry G-Force is probably the scariest thing in the world.
Finally, just before the main event of the Fight of the Valkyries Tournament, we had a CCW Welsh Championship match between the challenger and No.1 Contender Mr. Williams and the reigning champion, 'Mr Bazinga' Keith the Destroyer Mathews. Williams had earned this title shot by irking Mason Tombs into a match a A Battle Between Fire And Ice last year. Having gotten past the Chairman, Williams was entitled to his match which was scheduled for this event. Without wanting to give too much away, you must watch this match. Two top performers giving it loads with a shocking finish?! Yes please! Somehow I don't think this rivalry is over.
Lastly all that remains to be said is a huge thank you to everyone who came out to Fight of the Valkyries or to any of our shows. Thank you if you follow us on Social Media, thanks if you've checked us out on YouTube or Vimeo, if you've liked anything of ours or retweeted something we've done. All of that is precious to us as we go on trying to put on the best wrestling shows we possibly can! The rest of this year is promising to be action-packed and seriously exciting. We have some mouth-watering prospects to come so please! Keep it CCW!
