Ladies and Gentlemen, for the first time in the history of Conwy County Wrestling we have a CCW Welsh Champion! Ace Jordan takes that honour after an unforgettable night of Wrestling action at Llandudno Lunction Labour Club.
All night long we held qualifying matches with the winners of those matches going through to the grueling 'Gauntlet For Greatness' match for the CCW Title! These matches were some of the best we've ever had in CCW and as you can imagine one of the standout matches was the No DQ Gauntlet Qualifer between Mr Massive Dan Evans and Disco Bert Bridge. Tables, Chairs, epic Lightsabre-style tube fights...
We also had our first ever ladies match! Two incredibly talented wrestlers in Jezabeth and 'The People's Princess' Nadia Sapphire went toe-to-toe, the Llandudno crowd fully into the match: Jezabeth came away with the win, much to everyone's displeasure. Sapphire will definitely want to settle this score at some point!
Super 8 finalist, and general badass Ashton Richards , (accompanied by Jim King) was defeated early by upcoming star Ryan Lloyd, who would eventually wrestle three times before the night was out. The mysterious new team of Fataluchas debuted with 'LTN' defeating the Devil's General Byson. Keith Mathews got past Armbar with Jack Union at ringside to help his old friend. Union himself managed to get past Jim King with an angry Ashton Richards out for vengeance.
In between all of this we an epic tag team encounter! Having felt slighted by CCW Chairman Mason Tombs by not being included in the Super 8 Tournament earlier in the year, the powerhouse G-Force and the acrobatic Celtic Kid took on the Chairman and his friend Ryan Lloyd! G-Force took control of this one and almost single-handedly took his opponents apart. Tombs and Lloyd combined well to keep the man with the power of gravity at bay. And in the end it was indeed the team of Tombs and Lloyd who managed to take the win. We will wait and see how G-Force and Celtic Kid take their loss.
The main event of the evening was of course the huge 'Gauntlet for Greatness' CCW Welsh Championship title match! Ryan Lloyd took on Dan Evans in a terrific match, with tons of banter spilling over and adding an edge to the match as Evans threatened Lloyd's family at ringside. In the end it was indeed the technically excellent Evans who got the win, eliminating Lloyd, a man with a bright future ahead.
Super 8 Cup Champion, Keith 'The Destroyer' Mathews was next in to face Dan Evans. Mathews manged to get a quick win here, exciting the crowd for what could have gone on to be an excellent run at the title.
Next in was Jack Union and no one could have anticipated what would happen as Mathews managed to claim the victory in controversial circumstances. After the three count Union was furious that he had placed his foot on the rope, which should have broken up the count. It led to both Armbar and Union laying into Mathews, leaving him defenseless for the next match up!
Fatalucha member LTN came out and stole the win, prompted by Union BUT THEN! He removed his mask revealing that the whole time, the whole night long he was actually Tommy Hayden in disguise! Absolute shock! Everyone thought that he and Sweeney (who had also de-masked himself) had been fired! Yet here they were and now Hayden was just one match away from winning the CCW Welsh Championship.
The last competitor due to enter the Gautlet Match? One Ace Jordan! Formerly of the Golden Embassy, having been kicked out in the strongest possible terms by Hayden and Sweeney after CCW Bad Blood, this was the first time that Jordan and Hayden would meet. Union and Armbar were still at ringside and amazingly seemingly in the corner of Hayden and Sweeney! There's been an undercover schism in CCW. Keith Mathews had also stayed out at ringside in an effort to help balance the numbers. The last match of Gauntlet for Greatness came down to Tommy Hayden Vs Ace Jordan. There was a time when Mr Sweeney would have dreamed about this line up. Now however, allegiances have changed and Ace Jordan is no longer a Golden Embassy man. The two men battled hard and Hayden showed his ruthlessness as well as his wrestling ability. But somehow, against all the odds, Ace Jordan managed to land his kicks. One to the knee and one to the face and that did the damage. The crowd counted along as the referee made the count and Ace Jordan became the CCW Welsh Champion!
The BIG One ch3 was a massive event for our company! We finally have inaugurated a Champion, adding a legitimacy and prestige to what we do. We've written in a splendid new page in the company's history and there is lots to look forward to!
As ever! We've got loads of highlights coming up, as well as tons of images from the night. I'm sure Dick Chambers will have a lot to say at some point. Remember to click the links below to find CCW all over the internet!
