I know I always harp on about this and you might be sick of hearing it, but CCW Super 8 is my favourite wrestling event of them all! Eight of the finest, strongest, toughest competitors from all around congregate for a one-night only knock-out tournament, with the ultimate victor being crowned CCW Super 8 Champion for this year.
For us at CCW it's a truly prestigious event and was our first ever genuine title. It's loaded with the company's history and memories of past years and I think this is part of what makes it such a special event.
When you say Super 8 to me, I think of the Canadian WWE almunus Joshua James battling AJ Hughes, charming the Conwy Civic Hall crowd with his larger than life style and super-smooth wrestling. I remember Syd Phillips lifting the first ever Super 8 Cup and being given a guard of honour by the CCW Locker Room in the ring. What about Ashton Richards assaulting Syd Phillips and stealing the Cup! Ry Lloyd has had some terrific matches and generally speaking, as a fan I feel that each Tournament has been a genuinely excellent and memorable night of wrestling.
So what about this year? Let me tell you, there's a palpable sense of excitement and electricity about this event and the future of CCW. We're working harder than ever to make sure we make CCW the best it can be and a huge part of that is the competitors we have lined up:
You will all be familiar with the human meteor that is Keith Mathews! The reigning and defending Super 8 Champion! He deservedly won last year after a grueling battle with Ashton Richards. Could he do the un-thinkable and retain his title on June 13th? He would be the first man ever to do this and what an achievement that would truly be.
AJ Hughes as always is a threat to everyone else in the Tournament. As I wrote on his promo poster, this is someone who has a burning desire to be the best. Hughes has a long association with the Super 8 Tournament, having come desperately close to winning it on each of the previous occasions. Can he finally make that final hurdle and climb to the top of the mountain? Don't forget, Hughes is a former CCW Welsh Champion: Pedigree.
Speaking of mountains, what of the Man Mountain, the man stronger than Gravity - G-Force! We've seen this huge specimen carve out a path for himself in CCW, now allying himself to The Smartest Man In Wrestling Today™ - Dick Chambers: with Chamber's tutelage and know-how G-Force has become much more ruthless and has a fearsome cutting edge to him. In my sincere opinion this man is in with a very strong chance of walking out of Colwyn Bay as the CCW Super 8 Champion.
One entrant that I concede I know absolutely nothing about is the mysterious Ulcio. If anyone reading this can shed any light on who this person might be, we at CCW would be very grateful for the insight. As it stands, for Ulcio to be entered into the Super 8 Tournament, he must have impressed someone, or at least have some links. Either way, the other entrants will surely have to keep an eye on this competitor.
What about the fantastic powerhouse, Mr Massive Dan Evans! We've seen in the past how Evans has battled with long-time friend/rival Bert Bridge in some of the best matches we've ever had in CCW. Indeed Evans and Bridge won the accolade of Match of the Year for their incredible no holds barred hardcore match at The BIG One Ch3. Anyone with that much ability, speed and agility must be in with a damn good chance of lifting the Super 8 Cup!
We'll be revealing the other entrants each day up until the day of the Tournament, so as much as I would love to, I can't divulge who else will be competing! But take it from me, there is some serious talent heading to North Wales, all with an eye on capturing the CCW Super 8 Cup for their own! Please stay with us on Facebook and Twitter for the very latest on everything Super 8 and everything CCW!
Lastly all that remains for me to say is that I sincerely hope you can join us for what promises to be an incredible night of wrestling action!
